Pay attention to grain-free recipes

Cats would not naturally eat grains such as rice or wheat as part of their diet. The reason: They can't digest grains particularly well.

Wet or dry food?

Every cat has its own food preferences, just like we humans prefer to eat this or that. The preferred flavors and food textures can already emerge in kitten age.
At Lily's Kitchen we believe that a cat's diet largely consists of Wet food should be given as this comes closest to their natural diet.
Wet food contains more water and helps cats, who are naturally not thirsty, stay well hydrated. This is important for a healthy urinary tract system, which can promote long-term kidney health.
Cats regulate their own appetite and it is normal for them to snack throughout the day. We therefore recommend serving our delicious dry food as a supplement to our wet food - for crunchy moments and variety.

“One of the most common questions I get asked about cat nutrition is whether you should feed them dry or wet food. The answer is: both and. Wet food for hydration and dry food for snacking."

Cats prefer to eat little, but often - serve several smaller meals throughout the day

Tips for ideal cat meals

It's not just the food itself that's important. The way you serve it to your cat also helps ensure your pet enjoys it.

Place the feeding bowl in a quiet place

Since cats are sensitive to loud noises, they feel much more comfortable when they get their food in a place where they can have peace and quiet.

Keep water and food bowls separate

Cats are very hygienic creatures. The places where they eat and drink should therefore be far apart - and of course also at an appropriate distance from the litter box!

Feed little and often

As already mentioned, our velvet paws prefer to eat little, but often. So it's better to serve several smaller meals throughout the day instead of one or two larger meals.

Serve food at room temperature

Cat food straight from the fridge is not a good idea. You risk knocking over one or two flower pots. Your decision...

Remove leftover food

Cats have a very sensitive sense of smell. Therefore, serve the food as fresh as possible and remove uneaten wet food about half an hour after feeding.

Always make dietary changes gradually

If you want to change your cat's diet, always do so gradually. Sudden changes can cause stomach upset. If you're switching to a different formula or new food, it's best to introduce it into your cat's diet gradually over the course of about a week. Start with a mixture of 4/5 of the previous food and 1/5 of the new food. Increase the ratio day by day until you are only feeding the new formula (*cough* Lily's Kitchen).

How to give your cat a balanced diet

Lily's Kitchen food provides the best nutrients for every stage of cat development. All our recipes contain natural ingredients and have a carefully balanced protein content.

“Cats are obligate carnivores, i.e. i.e., meat is a biological necessity for their diet. According to a recent study from the University of Exeter in the UK, a diet high in animal protein helps curb hunting behavior in cats."
